Graduate Students in obstetrics win awards at inaugural Healthy Starts Research Day

Students and Faculty allied with the Healthy Starts theme at the BC Children’s Hospital Research Institute celebrated the Inaugural Annual Healthy Starts Research Day with research presentations and poster sessions on November 8, 2016. The event included presentations by Faculty who received Catalyst grants in the 2016 competition (including Dr. Alex Beristain from the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology), short presentations by trainees and a Keynote talk delivered by Dr. Tex Kissoon, Vice-President, Medical Affairs, BC Children’s Hospital.

Several graduate students from the Department were among the Award recipients including Master’s category – Kayleigh Campbell (Rurak and Oberlander Research Team) PhD category – Giulia Muraca (Joseph Research Team)  and Bernard Kan (Lavoie Research Team) Post-doc/Clinical fellow category – Barbara Castellana Esteban (Beristain Research Team; missing in photo). Winners received a $750 travel award.

The Healthy Starts theme is one of 4 themes of research within the BC Children’s Hospital Research Institute. Several members of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology are affiliated with the Pathways to Healthy Birth Group within Healthy Starts (see http://bcchr.ca/our-research/healthy-starts).
